The fourth quarter of 2025 represents the 15th consecutive quarterly decline in fatalities beginning with the second quarter of 2022. If realized, the estimated percentage decrease for 2025 would be the fifth largest in the recorded history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System, bringing total fatalities back to the pre-pandemic levels seen in 2019. In 2025 the fatality rate dropped to 1.10 fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles traveled, down from 1.19 in 2024, the second lowest fatality rate in recorded history (started in 1975). The ambulance emergency lights and siren were not activated. The Kenworth was stopped at a stop sign to make a left turn. As it began the left turn, the front plane of the ambulance struck the left side of the Kenworth and underrode it. The crash occurred when the tractor-trailer was making a lefthand turn and was struck by a 2002 Ford Mustang with two adults and two children. The International was driven by a belted 52-year-old male. The Ford driver, a belted 29-year-old male, was killed when the vehicle ran a red light at high speed and under rode the trailer. An unbelted 28-year-old female in the front passenger seat, a belted 9-year-old male in the second row-left seat, and a 2-year-old female in the second row-right seat in an unknown child restraint system received injuries and were transported to a local trauma center with minor to moderate injuries. The International driver was not injured. The driver tested positive for zolpidem (trade name Ambien), a sedative-hypnotic used to treat insomnia, and likely fell asleep while driving. The crash occurred in Arkansas in January 2023.
