• Abstract:
  This edition of Traffic Safety Facts describes bicyclist fatalities and injuries in traffic crashes in 2024. Key findings: In 2024 there were 1,103 pedalcyclist fatalities, 2.8 percent of all traffic fatalities; pedalcyclist fatalities decreased by 6 percent, from 2023; an estimated 52,887 pedalcyclists were injured, 2.2 percent of all people injured and and up 6 percent from 2023; the pedalcyclist fatality rate was more than 7 times higher for males than females and the injury rate was 5 times higher for males than for females; alcohol involvement was reported in 33 percent of all fatal pedalcyclist crashes; 21 percent of the pedalcyclists who died had BACs of .01 or higher; and 81% of all pedalcyclist fatalities were in urban areas.
