• Abstract:
  This edition of Traffic Safety Facts briefly summarizes 2024 data on pedestrian fatalities and other crash-related information. Key Findings: In 2024 there were 7,080 pedestrians killed in traffic crashes, a 3.9-percent decrease from 2023; an estimated 71,635 pedestrians were injured in traffic crashes, a 5.0-percent increase from 2023; on average, a pedestrian was killed every 74 minutes or was injured every 7 minutes; pedestrian deaths accounted for 18 percent of all traffic fatalities and 3 percent of all people injured; 17 percent of the children 14 and younger killed were pedestrians; alcohol involvement for the driver or the pedestrian was reported in 43 percent of all fatal pedestrian-related crashes; in 2024; nearly 1 out of every 4 pedestrians killed (24%) were struck by hit-and-run drivers.
