Abstract:

The Bridge-in-a-Backpack™ has previously been demonstrated with short spans. The first

constructed one, Neal Bridge in Pittsfield, Maine had a span of 34 feet. This task includes

research and development that demonstrates the technology can be used safely with spans up to

70 feet. This required investigations into capacity of the bridge during construction,

improvements to the manufacturing process such that larger diameter tubes can be produced, and

verification of structural models for larger diameter tubes.
