The Digital Air Data Computer (DADC) can provide more precise altitude information on the "own" aircrafts altitude than is available by monitoring Mode C altitude output. Review of DADC specifications indicates DADC vertical velocity information may be too noisy for direct use by the collision avoidance logic in the Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TeAS). This report identifies the optimal alpha-beta parameters which should provide the smoothed vertical velocity estimates required by the collision avoidance logic. The only remaining task is to obtain sufficient DADC altitude data to ensure the resulting variance reduction is sufficient. If not adequate or if the error in the DADC altitude is autocorrelated, slight adjustment to the selected parameters may be necessary.
