Abstract:

Results of recent research by the Urban Mass Transportation Administration into the effect of fare policies on transit patronage are now available to help inform local officials and transit operators of consequences resulting from fare changes. Arthur E. Teele, Jr., UMTA Administrator, noted that in the past many fare changes were made without adequate information about the potential effects on ridership.
