Abstract:In the United States (US), thousands of pedestrians are killed each year. Out of the 50 US states and the District of Columbia, North Carolina has the 13th highest pedestrian fatality rate at 2.2 deaths per 100,000 person-years. In NC, veterans are overrepresented among pedestrian fatalities. The figures below display information comparing veteran pedestrian fatalities to non-veteran pedestrian fatalities. This analysis utilized NC death certificate data, which contains veteran status and educational attainment, unique in North Carolina among transportation data sources.
