Abstract:

This report on the administration of the Department of Transportation's (DOT) Pipeline Safety Program is prepared as prescribed by Sections 16 of the Natural Gas Pipeline Safety Act of 1968, (49 USC§ 1683) and 213 of the Hazardous Liquid Pipeline Safety Act of 1979, (49 USC § 2012). The Pipeline Safety Act of 1979, P.L. 96-129 besides amending the Natural Gas Pipeline Safety Act of 1968, Title I, included a Title II which created the Hazardous Liquid Pipeline Safety Act of 1979. This report, therefore, describes the Department's activities during calendar year 1983 to promote and influence the safe transportation of both natural gas and hazardous liquids through the Nation's network of pipelines.
