Abstract:This Special Crash Investigations report documents the remote investigation of a crash in May 2021, during which a 2008 Toyota Sienna struck a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup truck used by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) incident response team while aiding in a prior crash. The state’s Move-Over-Law requires drivers to slow down, proceed with caution, and when possible, move to the far lane when passing an official emergency response vehicle on the side of the road with emergency lights activated. Police determined that the 26-year-old Toyota driver was impaired and was arrested for driving under the influence/vehicle assault. The 54-year-old Chevrolet driver sustained police report “A” serious injuries.
