This report presents the results of research performed at the

Transportation Systems Center (TSC) dealing with mathematical
;
methods of predicting accidents at rail-highway crossings. The
;
work consists of three parts : Part I - Revised DOT Accident Prediction Formula; Part II - Accident Prediction Formula with Accident History; Part III - Comparative Performance of three Rail Highway Crossing Hazard Models. The study was sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), (specifically, the Office of Safety of the Federal Railroad Administration and the Office of Research of Federal Highway Administration). This study supports a program which was outlined in the 1972 DOT report to Congress on

safety improvement at 30,000 rail-highway crossings in the United States.
