Abstract:The cost of upgrading and modernizing the Nation's urban rail transit systems is the subject of a study begun recently by the Urban Mass Transportation Administration. The study is being made in response to a Congressional request to estimate the cost to rehabilitate and modernize rail transit systems across the country including rolling stock, equipment and facilities. UMTA is conducting the study in consultation with the American Public Transit Association (APTA) and is utilizing experts in all phases of rail transit operations.
