The objective of this research project is to evaluate the current method to develop TAZ-level socioeconomic forecasts for counties in the state outside the Wasatch Front and explore options for reducing costs and improving data quality. The socioeconomic data forecasts are currently developed in a series of spreadsheets that must be manually updated and reviewed for each socioeconomic data development cycle. There are more automated and sophisticated methods for generating socioeconomic data forecasts used throughout the country that could be adapted/utilized for UDOT purposes that can possibly save staff time, consultant costs, improve data quality, and enhance scenario testing capabilities.
