Abstract:This is the fourth in a series of publications by the Federal Highway Administration on the Design of Hydraulic Drainage Structures. It addresses specific methods for the design of open channels. This report discusses the characteristics of various types of linings and cross sections used for drainage channels, and the effects of channel alinement and grade on channel performance. It also briefly discusses the principals of hydrology and hydraulics. A number of example problems, illustrating the use of the design procedures are included.
