Abstract:

Librarians from the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) present an overview of the GPO’s library services. Jessica Fomalont gives a brief history of the agency and talks about major programs including the Federal Depository Library Program that provides free, ready, and permanent public access to Federal Government information. Fomalont also discusses the Cataloging & Indexing Program and Adelaide Hasse, who developed the SuDoc classification system that catalogs documents by agency. Jessica Tieman discusses the GovInfo Repository, which is a fully ISO:16363 certified Trustworthy Digital Repository. GPO is also an Affiliate Archive of the National Archives and Records Administration. GovInfo ingests an average of 4,000 submission information packages per week. Oksana Osborne shares how the GPO collaborates with the cataloging community. GPO has begun experimenting with Linked Data by adding URIs to bibliographic records linking them to name or subject authority records. GPO also contributes to the Library of Congress Subject Headings controlled vocabulary, partnered with the Library of Congress on a BIBFRAME project, and participated in testing of the Official RDA Toolkit.
