Abstract:The North Cascade Scenic Byway in north central Washington, which provides access to the North Cascades National Park, runs through some of the most rugged terrain in the State. Originally known as the North Cross-State Highway, it grew from mining trails and county roads to eventually connect the Okanogan Valley with the ports of Puget Sound.
