Abstract:The development of transportation infrastructures, such as roads, motorways, and railway lines, requires earthworks, mainly for the construction of the subgrades and base. When the infrastructures were constructed on the top of problem soil, such as cohesionless soil and expansive soil, it may cause some damages or unsafe uncertainty for the infrastructures. Expansive soils can induce damage to structures built on them because those expansive soils can cause volumetric changes with moisture content change.
