Abstract:In this project we investigate the application of ASTM D4595, ASTM D6637 and ASTM D7737 on geogrids from more than 9 geogrid manufacturers supplying materials for Wisconsin DOT projects. The objective was to determine minimum standard guidelines that can be used in practice based on ASTM D6637 and what can be learned from the junction strength behavior in ASTM D7737. A total of 987 specimens were tested with the bulk of the testing focused on the biaxial geogrids. The objective of this research is to provide WisDOT with correlation methods for tensile strength of geogrids tested using ASTM D6637 and D4595. Evaluation of test results including the use of statistical comparison of the results and relative of the weight of the geogrids was accomplished. Recommendations on incorporating new geogrid tension strength values in WisDOT specifications are discussed.
