This report describes the results of an investigation of the tensile and elastic properties of highway pavement materials. Cores of four types of materials obtained from recently constructed highway pavements were obtained and tested. Experimental estimates of the tensile and elastic properties (tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, and Poissonts ratio) of these materials were made using the indirect tensile test. In addition, the variation in the tensile and elastic properties which can be expected along the design length of a roadway was estimated.
