Abstract:

The primary goal of the workshop was to review and evaluate a concept of phytoremediation to extract radionuclides from the soil and near-surface groundwater combined with· biomass energy production to use the contaminated biomass from phytoremediation as well as other contaminated biomass in the Chernobyl Site Exclusion Zone (CEZ). Fifty-five knowledgeable representatives from government and industry in Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Denmark, and United States gathered at the Slavutych Laboratory for International Research and Technology, Slavutych, Ukraine, to discuss this concept.
