Abstract:The Connected Vehicle Pilot Deployment Program Cooperative Agreement calls for a Stakeholder Outreach activity that includes an interoperability activity showing successful interaction between the local Connected Vehicle Pilot Deployment site and in-vehicle devices from one or more of the other Connected Vehicle Pilot sites. The United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) and the three Connected Vehicle Pilot sites – New York City, Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA), and Wyoming – in collaboration with the USDOT’s Technical Support Contractor, and the Saxton Transportation Operations Laboratory (STOL) conducted Interoperability Testing at the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center (TFHRC) in McLean, Virginia on June 25-28, 2018. The Connected Vehicle Pilot Deployment Program’s definition of interoperability is: “A vehicle with an Onboard Unit (OBU) from one of the three CV Pilot sites is able to interact with OBUs and Roadside Units (RSUs) from each of the other sites in accordance with the key connected vehicle interfaces and standards.” This document outlines a summary of the test cases that were tested, the results that were reported, and the recommendations for future Interoperability Testing. This report is intended for early adopters of CV application concepts, ITS professionals, CV application developers, States and local DOTs, transit agencies, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and other stakeholders that can benefit from the results of the Interoperability Test.
