• Abstract:
  This article describes a project sponsored by the Texas Department of Transportation which involves researchers from the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) and the Texas Transit Safety Professionals Association (TTSPA) in the development of a guidebook for public transit systems for use in promoting safety in their operations. The guidebook, scheduled for completion in Fall 2001, will contain sections dealing with the following: accidents and incidents; alternative fuel safety; customer relations; performance and audits; facilities safety; emergency response; employee safety; hazardous materials; and human resource safety and training issues.
