Abstract:The work reported here is for a study that aimed to: (1) evaluate the concordance between internally observable variable (IOV) based and externally observable variable (EOV) based predictors of engine power demand; (2) develop predictive models for vehicle energy use and emissions (EU&E) based on IOVs; (3) evaluate models for vehicle EU&E based on IOVs by comparing to models based on EOVs; and (4) implement the new predictive models for emissions and fuel use based on IOV’s into SwashSim, a traffic microsimulation software program Based on this research, predictive models for vehicle EU&E are evaluated and recommendations are offered regarding choices among these models. The implementation of the IOV-based models into SwashSim demonstrates how this capability can be added to any microscopic traffic simulation tool.
