Abstract:On March 8-9, 2017, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) hosted a peer exchange on behalf of the Ohio’s Research Initiative for Locals (ORIL) program. Peer exchanges provide an opportunity to foster best practices and evaluate processes with colleagues from other states and national organizations. This exchange focused on transportation research programs designed to address issues specific to local public agencies (LPAs), e.g.: counties, townships and municipalities. Two specific topics were discussed during the exchange: (1) solicitation of research ideas and (2) implementation of research results. This document includes summaries of key discussion items that occurred for each exchange participant on the two topics, key takeaways for the participants, and specific recommendations for ORIL to consider as the program continues to grow and refine. Participants included representatives from American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), Iowa Highway Research Board (IHRB)/Iowa DOT, Local Road Research Board (LRRB)/Minnesota DOT, and ORIL/Ohio DOT.
