Index coding, a coding formulation traditionally analyzed in the theoretical computer science and
;
information theory communities, has received considerable attention in recent years due to its value in
;
wireless communications and networking problems. In particular, there is a now well understood
;
correspondence between interference alignment and index coding problems, and a deep relationship
;
between unsolved network coding problems and index coding. This renewed attention on index coding
;
has resulted in a growing body of literature on new bounds, coding strategies and applications of index
;
coding. We developed index-coded retransmission schemes to increase spectral efficiency of
;
retransmission subchannels. We also defined index coding gain as a performance measure to evaluate the
;
schemes. The numerical result shows that even with a suboptimal rank minimization algorithm, the
;
average achievable gain is significant.
