Abstract:"This collaborative research aims to develop a real-time stress monitoring system for highway bridges with a secured wireless sensor network. The near term goal is to collect wireless sensor data under different traffic patterns from local highway bridges. The long term goal is to build a non-destructive structural health monitoring system and derive a structural health index to predict the remaining life span of a highway bridge in order to save human lives, avoid costly failure, provide timely restoration, prevent unnecessary reconstructions, and minimize disruptions of traffic."
