Abstract:Efficient transportation is indispensable for economic growth and prosperity. In this study we propose the development of a high-speed surface corridor and compatible vehicles. We present a conceptual framework for this corridor and vehicle. This proposed concept will improve the efficiency, flexibility, convenience, and environmental impact of transporting people and materials. Our concept is to have trucks and cars travel through these corridors at speeds of over 250 mph without discontinuity. These vehicles will have the ability to use existing roads as well as the proposed corridor. We will explore the application of current and emerging technologies for developing such high-speed surface corridors to link major destinations such as Los Angeles and Chicago.
