Based on both a field site reconnaissance and workshop, this study developed a conceptual plan for the location and design of bicyle facilites to complete a "missing link" of the Jamaica Bay through the Rockaway region of Brooklyn and Queens in New York City. Both near-term and long-term interventions were developed. The study focused on non-motorized infrastructure (including signage and wayfinding) to enhance connections for visitors between Jacob Riis Park and the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge - subunits of the Jamaica Bay Unit of the National Park Service Gateway National Recreation Area, as well as connections between these sites and the local subway stations. A sequence of "next steps" has been articulated that the National Park Service could undertake independently, and in partnership with NYC Agencies and public stakeholders.
