• Description:
  The proposal which the National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) at the Wichita State University (WSU) submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on May 23, 1986 proposed aviation safety research efforts in four areas: crash-worthiness; electro-impulse deicing; stall/spin prevention; software reliability. In addition to the research activities undertaken during the period of this contract, the NIAR has completed construction on a 74,000-square-foot building which houses the activities and laboratories of the institute. Extensive equipment has been purchased as part of this contract and is now housed in the institute building. Moreover, the FAA support for equipment has been used to match State of Kansas equipment grants and has resulted in several well-equipped laboratories. This research has involved 13 faculty members and 14 students. Publications resulting from their research efforts are listed by area.
