• Abstract:
  The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has undertaken a significant effort to determine the effect of freight activity on the state's transportation system and corresponding needs that address those activities. CDOT undertook this study as a first step in defining its appropriate roles and responsibilities and in developing a framework for a proper data collection program. The study objectives were to identify current and future freight data requirements, to assess the availability and the quality of such freight data, and to develop a framework plan to collect, maintain and make available needed freight data. This report contains a brief introduction explaining the background and objectives of the study; a discussion of CDOT's organizational goals and objectives, CDOT's 2030 Statewide Transportation Plan goals, the goals and objectives of other transportation agencies in Colorado, and the goals and objectives for CDOT's Freight Data Program; an outline of current and future data needs; an examination of freight data availability; a discussion of the prioritization of data elements; and a recommended five-year Freight Data Program.
