Abstract:Urbanization, coastal inundation, extreme heat, and flooding poses critical threats to non-motorized transportation facilities (NMTFs) and micromobility infrastructure in Delaware. These environmental stressors pose unique challenges to micromobility facilities and their users, straining infrastructure integrity, elevating health risks, and causing service disruptions. Urbanization further compounds these vulnerabilities through increased impervious surfaces, degraded natural drainage, and concentrated populations in environmentally exposed areas. Using GIS-based geospatial analysis, this study evaluates NMTF exposure under coastal inundation scenarios of 1-7 feet, identifying significant corridor intersections with high-risk flood zones. Spatial analysis reveals strong overlaps between high-exposure zones and regions where walking, biking, and micromobility compose a greater share of daily trips, underscoring the need for adaptive infrastructure like shaded pathways, elevated bike lanes, and flood-resilient surfaces. To complement these geospatial findings, a public survey captured perceived environmental impacts on active transportation behavior, with AI-driven analysis applied to extract patterns and community insights. Findings offer actionable guidance for planners and policymakers advancing resilient urban mobility.
