Abstract:A continuous inline blender was developed at JPL to blend precisely metered quantities of ICI developed polymer slurries into a stream of Jet-A fuel. The inline blender was used to produce 5 to 10 gallons per minute of freshly blended AMK. The proprietary ICI slurries were made of FM-9 type polymers in a glycolamine carrier fluid. Depending upon the polymer particle size and powder loading, the slurry consistency ranged from free flowing to a paste with viscosities in the range of 5000 to 100,000 centipoise. With one of the polymer slurries, a provision was made for a time delay between the addition of slurry and the addition of the amine sequentially into the Jet-A stream. Originator supplied keywords include Aircraft Fires, Aircraft Safety, Antimisting Fuels, Safety Fuels.
