Abstract:The braking and cornering performance of an aircraft tire during landing operations depends upon the magnitude of the friction forces developed at the tire/runway interface. The presence of water on the runways significantly reduces the available friction at this interface and results in loss of braking and directional control of the aircraft. An extreme case of loss of control is hydroplaning.
