Abstract:Automated Terminal Services (ATS) is a concept which was developed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to enhance the ability of pilots to see and avoid other traffic, in accordance with existing Visual Flight Rules (VFR) procedures, at certain busy nontowered airports. It involves the use of a minicomputer, interfaced with an Air Traffic Control Radar Beacon System (ATCRBS) ground station, to track beacon-equipped aircraft operating in the vicinity of these airports. By the use of computerized voice transmissions, the minicomputer offers information such as weather data and issues traffic advisories.
