Abstract:The objective of the SPS-1 study is to enhance understanding of the strategic factors that influence the performance of flexible pavements. This SPS-1 project addresses factors including drainage, base type and thickness, and asphalt surface thickness as they relate to pavement performance. The experimental design for the SPS-1 experiment is shown in table 1. The SPS-1 project in Oklahoma was nominated to fulfill the requirements for the dry no-freeze climatic zone with fine-grained subgrade (Column "W11). This project includes 12 experiment test sections along with l supplemental test section selected by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (Oklahoma DOT) to evaluate various layer thicknesses for further use in future flexible pavement construction.
