Abstract:The purpose of the final report is to provide a summary of the research completed in terms of the work conducted and results of the project. A review of other state Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) best practices was conducted, and crash data trends for New Mexico for severe crashes statewide as well as for key emphasis areas. Overall fatal crash, severe crash, and fatality rates have declined in New Mexico from 2004 to 2008 and have been relatively flat from 2008 to 2011. Lane-departure- and speed-related fatalities have shown similar trends with decreases in other areas such as alcohol-impaired and pedestrian fatalities over the long term from 2004 to 2011. In addition, the final report outlines recommendations related to crash data analysis and to the CTSP design and process.
