Abstract:This guide provides Texas first responders methods to safely and efficiently respond to a multitude of routine and adverse incident scenarios involving automated vehicles (AVs). It contains a catalog of 19 scenarios and best practices developed by the project team using first responder standards and industry practices. This guide is divided into six main scenario sections: [1] Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) Routine Interactions; [2] Secondary Interactions; [3] Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Interactions; [4] LEO Non-Routine Interactions; [5] Crash Response and Investigation; [6] Traffic/Parking Management and Enforcement.... This document provides Texas first responders with essential information on automated vehicles (AVs) currently testing or operating within the state. It includes detailed photographs and descriptions of key components for each AV model, enabling responders to quickly identify vehicles and determine their level of autonomy, where applicable. By enhancing responders’ understanding of AV technology, this guide supports safe and effective incident management involving autonomous vehicles.
