Abstract:This report provides annotations of over 90 publications that were relevant to the objectives of a research study on the development of traffic information for estimation of mobile source emissions for air quality modeling. The abstracts reviewed, while not complete or comprehensive, are representative of the current literature. Emphasis was placed on studies which relate to the pollution problems in Houston, Harris County, Texas, to methods of estimation of mobile source emissions, to mobile source emission models, and to the impact of various vehicle and traffic technologies on mobile source emissions. The literature on the impact of various vehicle and traffic technologies on mobile source emissions is extensive. As the research study progresses, additional literature will be annotated and included in later volumes of this report. Annotations are categorized and presented in the following areas: Air Quality and Mobile Source Emissions Bibliographies, Emissions and Emission Models, Air Quality Impacts of Transportation System Management Type Actions, Traffic Estimation (VMT, Peak Periods, Vehicle Mix) Methodology, Hot/Cold Starts and Hot Soak Estimation Methodology, and Houston Area Oxidant Studies (HAOS) and Related Oxidant Studies.
