Abstract:This project aims to address critical gaps in current occupant safety standards with a focus on the vulnerabilities of females, highlighting the need for more inclusive injury criteria. In Phase I of this project, current phase, a comprehensive review of the literature was conducted on six primary areas of study: (1) real-world crash data analysis, (2) male and female differences in driving behavior, (3) current safety criteria, (4) evaluation of the flail-space model, (5) biomechanical differences between males and females, and (6) LS-DYNA simulations using crash test dummies.
