Abstract:The pollutional effects of runoff from streets and highways have usually been expressed in terms of parameters commonly used to characterize municipal wastewater. This study represents an initial attempt at determining the presence or absence of certain categories of fuels, oils and tars in storm effluents. Oil, grease and heavy metals are washed from asphalt and concrete pavements under simulated rainfall conditions.
