Abstract:Highway planning at both the project and network level requires the availability of current construction cost information as well as a methodology for predicting cost into the future. Current highway cost information for the United States and Texas is available from four main sources: 1. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA); 2. Engineering News Record (ENR); 3. U. S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics; and 4. Texas State Department of Highways and Public Transportation (SDHPT). Current and historic cost data are summarized from those sources in this report. Regression equations are being developed by the Texas Transportation Institute to predict future cost trends for highway construction. Those mathematical prediction models have not been finalized.
