Abstract:Freeway surveillance and control have been used to improve traffic operation on and near the Gulf Freeway in Houston, Texas. Several research reports previously issued by the Texas Transportation Institute have investigated the nature and types of surveillance and control and have documented their effects on the Gulf Freeway. This report gives an economic evaluation of the loss of time resulting from freeway obstructions and an evaluation of the benefits of freeway surveillance and control.
