Abstract:Understanding the response a tunnel will have when subjected to explosive loading has become an important topic. In recent years, concerns about potential accidents or attacks in tunnels and similar infrastructures has been escalating. Understanding of the factors that influence the tunnel's response and utilizing numerical models to test various scenarios that tunnels may encounter will provide valuable insights into effective damage mitigation strategies. Current models used to predict the maximum deformation of a tunnel liner are complicated and time consuming. The need for a different way to calculate this value led to the creation of a new theoretical model based on single degree of freedom methods and a corresponding numerical implementation. In this thesis the author shows that using a simplified single degree of freedom model with soil shows potential for producing quick results with good accuracy. Nevertheless, it is important to acknowledge that this model does have several limitations, which the author has identified and will be discussed in this thesis.
