Abstract:The purpose of Women in Aviation and Space is to provide women and girls with role models in a variety of aviation and aerospace career fields. The women who are profiled in this publication were nominated by aviation business and industry; government agencies (the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Hawaii Department of Transportation); general aviation societies and organizations (Whirly Girls, Society of Women Engineers, General Aviation Manufacturers Association, National Association of Flight Instructors, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the National Agricultural Aviation Association, Negro Airmen International and the American Association of Airport Executives); The Smithsonian Air and Space Museum; and the Armed Forces.
The 46 women featured here represent a variety of ages, different racial and ethnic backgrounds, and various geographic regions throughout the United States. They responded to questions about their work histories, families, training experiences, exciting aspects of their career. support organizations and future goals. They were also asked to provide tips on how women can successfully pursue an aviation or aerospace career.
