Improving the resilience of transportation infrastructure and operations to extreme weather events, natural disasters, and other disruptions is an important focus of transportation agencies. Over the past decade, many agencies have expanded resilience efforts to include preparing for and adapting to potential hazards. The threats and hazards facing transportation agencies in the United States vary by region, mode and physical location. Transportation system vulnerabilities are similarly varied. Many agencies have made notable progress incorporating resilience into transportation decision-making. The goal of this project was to document resilience and capital planning best practices from leading transportation agencies nationwide but with a focus on Region II. The research team developed a peer exchange that gathered regional agencies to share current practices and identify best practices.
