Under the Federal Railroad Administration-sponsored Truck Design Optimization Project Phase II, a set of standard test specifications were developed to evaluate and characterize the performance of Type I (standard) and Type II (premium) freight car truck configurations. The test specifications provide guidelines for the conducting, acquisition, and analysis of both field and laboratory testing, so that the resulting performance test data can be evaluated against the recommended levels of performance developed during Phase II efforts.
