The Bismarck Mandan Metropolitan Planning Organization (B-M MPO) Travel Demand Model (TDM) undergoes a comprehensive update every five years to incorporate the latest ground truths/data and advancements in transportation modeling techniques. The latest update incorporates data from the base year 2021 and partially from 2022, necessitated by the unique traffic patterns resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, which rendered the 2020 data unreliable for traffic forecasting. The model adheres to a four-step TDM framework, comprising trip generation, trip distribution, modal split, and trip assignment. The update procedure includes meticulous calibration of the model's input parameters and validation against actual data.
