Abstract:The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has had inconsistent success in sealing vertical cracks in concrete structures. This necessitated the investigation of the performance of different sealant types and application methods to address the concern of proper crack sealing in concrete substructures that cannot be routinely investigated. For this purpose, an extensive literature review was conducted. In addition, a targeted evaluation of the most commonly used concrete crack sealant products was conducted based on the information gathered from a survey directed to the state highway agencies within U.S. and Canada. Based on the literature review and survey data analysis, recommendations were developed that can be used as an internal guidance document to update the FDOT Standard Specification 400-21.
