Abstract:This dataset supports the conclusions of the 2007 Motor Vehicle Occupant Safety Survey, and its various outputs. The 2007 MVOSS was the sixth in a series of periodic national telephone surveys on occupant protection issues conducted for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Data collection was conducted by Schulman, Ronca & Bucuvalas, Inc., a national survey research organization. The 2007 MVOSS was composed of two questionnaires, each administered to a sample of randomly selected individuals 16 and older, with ages 16 through 39 over-sampled: Version 1 Questionnaire focused on seat belt issues. It contained shorter modules on vehicle speed, air bags, drinking and driving, crash injury experience, and demographics. Version 2 Questionnaire focused on child restraint use. It included shorter modules on seat belt use, driver education and licensing, air bags, emergency medical services, phone use while driving, crash injury experience, and demographics. Selected questions regarding seat belts, air bags, crash injury experience, and demographics appeared on both questionnaires. The survey was administered from January 9, 2007 to April 30, 2007. A total of 5,908 respondents completed the survey using the Version 1 Questionnaire and 6,010 respondents completed the survey using the Version 2 Questionnaire. Three databases are provided: 1) Data collected by the Seat Belt Issues (version 1) questionnaire; 2) Data collected by the Child Restraint Use (version 2) questionnaire; and 3) Data from questions that appeared on both questionnaires. The third database duplicates data from the first two databases, yet it provides approximately 12,000 cases (i.e., all participants in the survey regardless of the questionnaire version they received).
These data support the results of the following reports available in this repository: 2007 Motor Vehicle Occupant Safety Survey: Volume 1: Methodology Report https://doi.org/10.21949/1525632 ; 2007 Motor Vehicle Occupant Safety Survey: Volume 2: Seat Belt Report https://doi.org/10.21949/1525633 ; 2007 Motor Vehicle Occupant Safety Survey: Volume 3: Air Bags Report https://doi.org/10.21949/1525684 ; 2007 Motor Vehicle Occupant Safety Survey: Volume 4: Crash Injury and Emergency Medical Services Report https://doi.org/10.21949/1525652 ; 2007 Motor Vehicle Occupant Safety Survey: Volume 5: Child Safety Seat Report https://doi.org/10.21949/1525660 ; 2007 Motor Vehicle Occupant Safety Survey: Use of and Support for Emergency Medical Services Systems [Traffic Safety Facts]https://doi.org/10.21949/1525650 ; 2007 Motor Vehicle Occupant Safety Survey: Driver Education and Graduated Driver Licensing [Traffic Safety Facts] https://doi.org/10.21949/1525667
