Abstract:This project involves experimental testing of a novel bridge deck with a corrugated core that is bonded to the deck plate using structural adhesive. The specimen was supported and loaded using specially designed fixtures. Comprehensive instrumentation was implemented, including uniaxial, biaxial, and rosette strain gauges, as well as displacement transducers. The testing program comprised initial static tests, fatigue tests, and intermittent static tests. The fatigue test was conducted for 5 million cycles. Analysis of the static test results suggested degradation of the adhesive connection between the core and the deck plate due to fatigue loading, leading to changes in transverse load distribution and decreased deck stiffness. However, the structural integrity of the deck was not compromised. This study showed the potential for cost-effective fabrication of steel sandwich plate decks using structural adhesive.
