The purpose of this three-year study conducted by USC and UC Davis ("Measuring the Evolution of California's Central Valley: Demographics, Supercommuting, and Fiscal Stress") is to investigate the impacts of Bay Area economic growth on communities in Central Valley. The team seeks to understand who is commuting (to Bay Area living in Central Valley) and how their employment and living patterns are affecting the cities and towns in which they live from a fiscal (i.e.; budget for city services) and land use perspective (i.e.; housing).
